In the indigenous Taíno language of Borikén (Puerto Rico), **Bi** means *life or beginning*, and **Wada** (from *Guada*) means *garden*. Traditional polyculture gardens grew distinct, complementary crops in the same prepared soil so the whole plot stayed productive and resilient across seasons.
